Who I Am

I began traveling alone when I was in high school.

At that time, I felt that spending my relatively free high school years solely preparing for university entrance exams would be a waste. I wanted to experience the world firsthand and discover what I truly wanted to study in the future.

So I worked part-time, saved money, and used long vacations to take week-long solo trips.

Travel became my classroom.

Why Social Science

During high school, I constantly questioned what I should study and what kind of life I wanted to pursue. While traveling, I asked people I met about their lives and choices.

But the decisive moment came from observation.

Every country and city felt different.
Urban landscapes.
Public transportation systems.
People’s attitudes.
Social atmosphere.

I began taking notes on these differences.

Gradually, I realized that these visible contrasts were deeply connected to culture, history, religion, and politics. I wanted to understand the underlying structures behind what I observed.

That curiosity led me to study Social Sciences.

Why Korea?

Once I decided to study Social Sciences, the next question was: where?

I considered Japan, Taiwan, and Korea.
However, I wanted to study in a society different from my own, alongside students with diverse backgrounds.

Korea is geographically close to Japan, yet historically complex. At the same time, the two societies share many similarities.

Studying in Korea allows me to examine both difference and similarity from within.

I chose to live inside the questions I wanted to understand.

I travel not only to see the world, but to understand the systems that shape it.

Foundations

Before I began traveling alone, my childhood was already filled with diverse experiences.

I practiced sumo, swimming, skiing, judo, and soccer.
I sang in a choir, played Go, and traveled across Japan with my family.

Through these activities, I learned discipline, teamwork, strategic thinking, and resilience.

Looking back, travel did not suddenly change me.
It expanded a curiosity that had already been nurtured since childhood.
